What can we say about Poppy! She is our star, the perfect example of the breed that every breeder strives to achieve. Add to that a temperament that makes her an ideal show girl and you have perfection! As can be seen from just some of her recent awards she can still knock spots off the younger rising stars and she is still in sparkling condition even though she is now approaching 17 years of age.
She has always known how to flirt with her judges and loves every minute of every cat show. Last year we decided to enter her in the Supreme Cat Show, which was just after her 16th birthday, and then retire her from showing. She already had one UK Grand Premier Certificate, won the previous year, and we were quietly hoping that she might be awarded the second one, which would give her the UK Grand title. To our delight she did get the UK Grand Certificate, then Best of Breed, followed by Best of Variety Semi Longhair Neuter. We believe that she is the oldest Birman ever to achieve this. What a swansong!
We are so proud of our wonderful lady, she has given us so much joy for almost 17 years. She still plays when no-one is watching, her coat is still pale and profuse, her eye colour remains deep blue and she still has all her own teeth! She has been a wonderful ambassador for Syralette Birmans and we feel very privileged to have bred her.
Our only problem is that she is the most un-photogenic cat imagineable - many have tried over the years to capture her beauty, with little success. We have tried many times to get some really good pictures but her face is so dark and her eye colour so deep that on a photo she appears to have no face at all. The photos that appear on this page are the best we could get, but they really don't do her justice.
